The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) is looking for an ECONOMIST interested in regional and spatial analysis.

If you are appointed, your major tasks will be:

›    Economic research on sub-national regions in the EU and its neighbourhood
›    Data collection and analysis
›    Acquisition and execution of research projects

We are seeking someone with:

›    An MA in Economics and/or Spatial Planning
›    Willingness to constantly learn and explore new research agendas
›    An interest in applied research and policy evaluation
›    Good quantitative and econometric skills (Stata/R; GIS skills are an advantage)
›    An excellent command of English (written and oral)
›    Ideally, German and/or Eastern European language skills
›    Very good (proposal) writing and presentation skills
›    A positive working attitude
›    An ability to work independently as well as in teams
›    Research experience in regional and spatial analysis and knowledge of territorial development policies are a plus

Initially, the contract will be for a fixed term of 24 months, but the appointment could be made permanent (subject to a satisfactory probationary period). Monthly remuneration (14 times per year) for a 40-hour week will be € 3,286.40 gross (FWF Austrian Science Fund standard salary for a PhD candidate) or above, depending on qualifications and experience.
