The Department of Sociology at the Institute for Advanced Studies cordially invites you to the following Public Lecture Monday, October 5, 2015 Attention – New Address IHS, Josefstädter Strasse 39 , 1080 Vienna Lecture Room E02, ground floor 5:00 pm Aaron V. Cicourel University of California: San Diego (Professor Emeritus, Cognitive Science, Pediatrics, Sociology); San Francisco (Professor Emeritus, Institute for Health and Aging) Diagnosing dementia Conscious, “subjective” experiences, “self-awareness,” “agency,” ”theory of mind” are concepts constitutive of human cognitive and emotional reasoning. All health providers recognize the initial necessity of clinical analogical elicitation procedures then immediately seek digital outcomes generated by standardized questions and digital measures. The “analogical,” “digital” distinction often suggests a pejorative, unnecessary “divide”. The lecture will explore the analogical-digital “divide” using a detailed examination of a neurological Fellow’s interview history of a patient with aphasia, and an audio recorded interview between the same patient and an Attending (Board Certified) neurologist.
