We have the pleasure of inviting you to the

Workshop „Fiscal policy and ageing“ of the Austrian Fiscal Advisory Council,

which will take place on Friday, October 6, 2017, on the premises of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Otto-Wagner-Platz 3, 1090 Vienna, Austria.

The aftermath of economic and financial crisis has been characterized by times of slow economic growth and increases in public debt to unprecedented levels for most EU member states. This came along with a shift of the focus of interest towards the short-run challenges. The limitation of fiscal space however also implies that maintaining long-run sustainability of public finances in the face of demographic change will become more challenging. The aim of the workshop is to revive the discussion of ageing and long-run fiscal sustainability.

The workshop will focus on the following areas:

Fiscal challenges and sustainability in an ageing society (Session I)

Public spending on long term care and health (Session 2) and

Pension reforms in advanced countries (Session 3).
