Zusammenfassung:

Regionale Handelsabkommen (RTAs) sind ein weit verbreitetes und gängiges Instrument zur Erleichterung des Waren- und Dienstleistungsverkehrs zwischen Ländern. Während sie ursprünglich auf den Warenhandel und hauptsächlich auf Zölle abzielten, sind RTAs heute viel umfassender, decken auch Dienstleistungen ab und gehen weit über die Abschaffung von Zöllen hinaus, indem sie nichttarifäre Maßnahmen harmonisieren und politische Maßnahmen in einer Vielzahl von Bereichen vereinbaren, wie z. B. Auslandsinvestitionen, Arbeitsmärkte, Schutz von geistigen Eigentumsrechten und Umwelt. In diesem Policy Brief erörtern wir zunächst den aktuellen Stand des Wissens über die Quantifizierung der Auswirkungen von Freihandelsabkommen auf den internationalen Handel und zeigen dann die Mängel des Standardansatzes zur Messung der Auswirkungen von Freihandelsabkommen auf.

OUTLINE

Der Forschungsschwerpunkt Internationale Wirtschaft kündigt seine 17. Forschungskonferenz „International Economics“ an und lädt zur Einreichung von (vollständigen) Working Papers ein, die auf der Konferenz präsentiert werden sollen.

Beiträge von Doktoranden, jungen Fakultätsmitgliedern und jungen Forschern in ähnlichen Positionen sind besonders willkommen, da die Konferenz junge Wirtschaftswissenschaftler unterstützen und ermutigen soll, indem sie ihnen die Möglichkeit gibt, ihre Arbeit sowohl anderen jungen Wirtschaftswissenschaftlern als auch erfahrenen älteren Forschern vorzustellen.

 

TIME & LOCATION

Die 17. FIW-Forschungskonferenz findet am Donnerstag, 20. Februar 2025 und Freitag, 21. Februar 2025 an der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (WU Wien), Welthandelsplatz 1, 1020 Wien statt.

Wir bitten um die Einreichung von (vollständigen) Arbeitspapieren zu allen Themen aus dem Bereich der Internationalen Wirtschaft.

AWARDS
Es werden zwei Preise für die besten Beiträge zur Forschungskonferenz vergeben – der ‚Best Conference Paper Award 25′ und der ‚Young Economist Award 25‘. Jeder Preis ist mit 1000 € dotiert.

Regional Trade Agreements: What Do We Know and What Do We Miss?

Abstract:

Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) are a widespread and common tool to facilitate trade of goods and services between countries. While they targeted originally goods trade and mainly tariffs, today, RTAs are much more comprehensive, covering also services and going far beyond eliminating tariffs by harmonizing non-tariff measures and agreeing on policies in a wide area of fields, such as foreign investments, labour markets, protection of intellectual property rights, and the environment. In this policy brief, we first discuss the current state of knowledge concerning the quantification of the effects of RTAs on international trade, and then highlight shortcomings of the standard approach to measure the impact of RTAs opening up potential avenues for future research and policy work in this area.

OUTLINE

The Research Centre International Economics - FIW announces its 17th Research Conference ‘International Economics’ and invites the submission of (full) working papers to be presented at the conference.

Papers from Ph.D. students, young faculty members and young researchers in similar positions are particularly welcome as the conference aims to support and encourage young economists by providing an opportunity to present their work to fellow junior economists as well as experienced senior researchers.

 

TIME & LOCATION

The 17th FIW Research Conference on ‘International Economics’ will take place on Thursday, 20th February 2025 and Friday, 21st February 2025 at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna), Welthandelsplatz 1, 1020 Vienna, Austria.

 

PAPER SUBMISSION

We invite the submission of (full) working papers on all topics in the field of International Economics.

Please submit your working papers via https://conference2025.fiw.ac.at until 11th October 2024.

 

AWARDS

Two prizes for the best contributions to the Research Conference will be awarded - the ‘Best Conference Paper Award 25’ and the ‘Young Economist Award 25’. Each award is worth € 1000.
