The Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) together with four other institutes (Humanities & Socal Sciences) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is jointly organising the

the international conference “AI meets Humanities & Social Sciences”, which will take place from June 23 to 25, 2025 at the ÖAW main building.

The conference will focus on AI research in the context of research in the Humanities and Social Sciences in the 21st century. The three-day conference combines different presentation and exchange formats, reflecting on the potentials and challenges of future research.

In addition to oral presentations, posters and multimedia presentations will contribute to interactive exchange based on exemplary use cases from research projects of the OeAW institutes and commissions.

The third day of the conference will be devoted to science policy reflection on the general impact of AI on science in general and the Humanities and Social Sciences in particular. A final highlight will be the panel discussion „Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften im Zeitalter von KI“ (in German), to which the interested public will also be invited.

Herzliche Einladung zur Konferenz "AI meets Humanities & Social Sciences", die vom 23. bis 25. Juni 2025 im ÖAW-Hauptgebäude stattfinden wird.

Im Fokus der Konferenz steht die KI-Forschung im Kontext der geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung im 21. Jahrhundert. Die dreitägige Konferenz vereint unterschiedliche Präsentations- und Austauschformate, in deren Rahmen die Potentiale und Herausforderungen zukünftiger Forschung reflektiert werden.

Neben mündlichen Vorträgen sollen Poster- und Multimedia-Präsentationen zu einem interaktiven Austausch anhand exemplarischer Anwendungsfällen aus Forschungsprojekten der ÖAW-Institute und -Kommissionen beitragen.

Speziell der dritte Konferenztag ist der wissenschaftspolitischen Reflexion über die Implikationen von KI für die Wissenschaft im Allgemeinen und die Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften im Besonderen gewidmet. Ein abschließender Höhepunkt wird die Podiumsdiskussion „Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften im Zeitalter von KI“ sein, zu der auch die interessierte Öffentlichkeit eingeladen ist.
