Following the Great Financial Crisis and the Great Recession of 2007-2009, macroprudential policy emerged as a new policy area to ensure financial stability and protect the macroeconomy against financial disruption. Cornelia Holthausen is Director General Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability (DGMF) at the European Central Bank and thus a key policymaker in the field. In her presentation at WU, she will assess current financial stability and will discuss the future development of macroprudential policy frameworks.

Cornelia Holthausen has been Director General Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability (DGMF) at the European Central Bank since 2021. Previously, she held positions as Deputy Director General in DG Markets and DG Economics, as well as Head of the Financial Research Division at the ECB. She holds a PhD in Economics from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona.

The public lecture is jointly organized by Aurel Schubert, Honorary Professor at WU Vienna and former Director General Statistics, ECB and by Guido Schäfer, Department of Economics, WU Vienna.
