Homi Kharas will present his work on the middle class on March 27 at 17:00 at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in an event organized by the Department
of Economics.
Homi Kharas has been a senior fellow and deputy director for the global economy and development program at the Brookings Institution since 2005. He served for seven years as chief economist for the World Bank’s East Asia
and Pacific region and famously developed the concept of „middle income traps“ together with Indermit Gill. In addition, he was the lead author and executive secretary of the secretariat supporting the High-Level Panel advising United Nations Secretary General
Ban Ki-moon on the Post-2015 Development Agenda (2012-2013). The report, A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development“was the basis for the development of the Sustainable Development Goals.
