Event Details:
Recent years have witnessed renewed interest in industrial policy. The first part of the talk will introduce modern industrial policy discussing : i) what modern industrial policy entails ii) what the economic
rationale for industrial policy is; and iii) why there has traditionally been so much skepticism about it amongst economists. The second part of the talk will discuss what a new empirical literature has to say about the efficacy of industrial policy. The third
part of the talk touches on where new research on industrial policy is headed, highlighting work on how to constructively confront the very real political economy challenges to implementation, and how industrial policy can be consistent with a rules-based
trading system.

Please feel free to share this invitation with colleagues or students who might be interested.
Best Regards:
Mats
