The Fall School brings together PhD candidates from a wide range of disciplines and is explicitly designed as an interdisciplinary programme, integrating perspectives from the social sciences, energy and resource economics, environmental sciences, engineering, and also philosophy and normative theory.
The Fall School focuses on analysing technological, institutional, and behavioural lock-ins across socio-technical systems and on developing strategies and intervention pathways for transformative change. Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams on specific production and consumption systems, including agricultural food systems, industrial production and consumption, transport systems, and energy systems.
Participation is free of charge, lunch and a welcome dinner are provided, and participants earn 4 ECTS credits. The programme includes the collaborative development of a short interdisciplinary research paper after the Fall School. Active participation throughout the entire programme is expected.

How can technological, institutional, and behavioural lock-ins be overcome to enable sustainability transitions and achieve climate neutrality?
The PhD Fall School 2026 organized by Climate Change Graz brings together doctoral researchers from diverse disciplines in an interdisciplinary and collaborative learning environment. The programme focuses on analysing lock-ins and their interconnections across socio-technical systems, and on developing strategies and intervention pathways for transformative change.
