About the Event
Health during childhood is increasingly understood as a critical determinant of later-life wellbeing and economic outcomes, including educational achievement
and wages. This workshop—jointly organized by the Economics Department of Johannes Kepler University Linz
(JKU) and the Institute
for Advanced Studies (IHS) Vienna—will bring together distinguished scholars from Europe who present cutting-edge work on understanding
the causes and consequences of child health and related policies. As a special guest, we are honored
to welcome American Economic Association president-elect Janet Currie, the Henry Putnam Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University and the
Co-director
of Princeton's Center for Health and Wellbeing. She also co-directs the Program on Families and Children at the National Bureau
of Economic Research. Currie is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and of the American Academy of Art and Sciences. She was named a Nomis Distinguished Scientist in 2019 and was named one of the top 10 women in
Economics by the World Economic Forum in July 2015. Speakers:
