Wie ihr vielleicht schon bemerkt habt, vereinheitlichen wir die WLAN Infrastruktur am WU Campus. Bislang konntet ihr zwei WLAN-Netzwerke an der WU verbinden: „wu“ und „eduroam“. Die Nutzung von „wu“ wurde lange empfohlen, ist jedoch aufgrund von technischen Aktualisierungen nicht mehr nötig. Das WLAN-Netzwerk „wu“ wird daher im Laufe des Wintersemesters 2021/22 vollständig deaktiviert. Wir entschuldigen uns für die verspätete Information und die dadurch entstandene Verwirrung. Was passiert gerade?

Das Netzwerk „wu“ wird aktuell nicht mehr in der Liste verfügbarer WLAN-Netzwerke am Campus angezeigt. Geräte, auf denen „wu“ bereits konfiguriert ist, benötigen möglicherweise sehr lange, bis sie eine Internetverbindung erhalten.

Was müsst ihr tun?

Aufgrund der geplanten Abschaltung des WLAN-Netzwerks „wu“ empfehlen wir, das WLAN-Netzwerk „eduroam“ auf euren Geräten einzurichten. Anleitungen und Konfigurationsdaten findet ihr auf unserer Webseite https://short.wu.ac.at/wlan

Welchen Vorteil bietet "eduroam"?

Education Roaming erlaubt euch den Internet-Zugriff an allen Institutionen, die in Österreich und auch weltweit am eduroam-Projekt teilnehmen. Die WLAN-Verbindung wird einmalig an der WU eingerichtet und eure Geräte verbinden sich an allen anderen Institutionen automatisch mit „eduroam“.

Dear students,

As you may have noticed, we are simplifying the WU campus Wi-Fi networks. Until now, you could connect to two Wi-Fi networks at WU: "wu" and "eduroam." The use of "wu" was recommended up to this point but is no longer necessary due to technical updates. The Wi-Fi network "wu" will therefore be deactivated during the winter semester 2021/22. What is happening right now?

The network "wu" is currently no longer shown in the list of available WLAN networks on campus. Devices that already have "wu" configured may take a long time to get an internet connection.

What do you need to do?

Because the Wi-Fi network "wu" will be discontinued at a later point during the winter semester, we recommend using the Wi-Fi network "eduroam" on your devices. Instructions and configuration data are available on our website https://short.wu.ac.at/wi-fi.

What are the advantages of "eduroam"?

Education Roaming allows you to access the Internet at all institutions participating in the eduroam project in Austria and around the world. The Wi-Fi connection is set up once at WU. Your devices will then automatically connect to "eduroam" at all other institutions.

If you have trouble setting up the Wi-Fi connection, our staff at the IT Service Desk in the Teaching Center or the IT Support Center in the D2 building will be happy to assist you.
