Browseransicht October/ 2025 The 7th Oskar Morgenstern Medal is awarded to INSEAD Professor Phanish Puranam, a leading expert in organizational design and strategy     Following the announcement of this year’s laureate, we are pleased to cordially invite you to the award ceremony of the Oskar Morgenstern Medal 2025 hosted by the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics (University of Vienna).   This year’s Oskar Morgenstern Medal honors Prof. Phanish Puranam (INSEAD) for his pioneering contributions to organization science. His work combines analytical rigor with real-world impact, shaping how we understand and design organizations in an increasingly complex, interconnected, and technology-driven world. In particular, Prof. Puranam’s research explores how decision-making architectures can be improved and how artificial intelligence can be integrated into organizations in a way that fosters collaboration, innovation, and human-centeredness. The award highlights the importance of rethinking the future of organizations – a theme that Prof. Puranam will address in his public lecture “Designing Organizations in the Age of Algorithms”.         Award Ceremony 2025 Date: Thursday, 9. October 2025  Time: 15:30 – 17:00 Place: HS1 (EG), Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1, 1090 Vienna         The capacity to organize ourselves to pursue a variety of goals is one of the oldest and most powerful technologies our species has developed. Phanish Puranam will draw on his research to describe how organizations and their designs are being impacted by another powerful, far more recently developed technology: Artificial Intelligence (AI). He will highlight the challenges that lie ahead for organizations when adopting AI technologies in a manner that is both goal centric and human-centric.   Phanish Puranam is Professor of Strategy and Roland Berger Chaired Professor of Strategy and Organisational Design at INSEAD. His research focuses on the design and functioning of organizations and how we can make them better and more effective. As a recognized expert in organizational design, he is currently investigating how intelligent algorithms relate to organizations—whether as tools, cooperation partners, or templates for new forms of organization.   At INSEAD, Puranam leads the “Organizations and Algorithms” research initiative and advises executives from business, politics, and international institutions. He received his PhD from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and previously taught at the London Business School, where he also served as academic director of the doctoral program.     Further Information The Faculty of Business, Economics and Statisitcs is committed to conducting research at the highest level and promoting the reputation of international cutting-edge research: In 2025, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics will award the Oskar Morgenstern Medal for the seventh time in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of economics. The award is named after Oskar Morgenstern, the co-founder of game theory, who was a professor at the University of Vienna until 1938.
