Anhand von Umfragedaten aus sechs zentralen EU-Ländern - Österreich, Deutschland, Tschechien, Ungarn, Polen und der Slowakei - haben wir herausgefunden, dass der Kontakt mit der Technologie die Angst vor der Automatisierung erhöht, ähnlich wie die Substitution von Aufgaben. Junge, weniger gebildete und einkommensschwache Personen sind ängstlicher, während das Geschlecht keine signifikante Auswirkung zeigt. Abschließend erörtern wir, wie sich die Angst vor der Automatisierung auf die Motivation zur Umschulung in der betrieblichen Praxis auswirkt. Die Seminarreihe wird vom Wiener Institut für Internationale Wirtschaftsvergleiche (wiiw) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem FIW sowie dem European University Institute organisiert. Using survey data from six Central EU countries—Austria, Germany, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia—we found that exposure to technology increases the fear of automation, similar to task substitution. Youth, less educated, and lower-income individuals are more fearful, while gender shows no significant effect.
