Lernräume und -flächen am Campus/Studying on the new campus

Please scroll down for the English version! Liebe Studierende, diese Woche ist bereits die erste Lernwoche des WS 13/14, die Oktober-Prüfungswoche rückt näher. Deshalb möchten wir Ihnen aktuelle Informationen zu den Lernräumen und –flächen am Campus geben und auf ein paar zentrale Punkte hinweisen: • Ab Montag, 30.09.2013, ist die Bibliothek am neuen Campus für Sie geöffnet. Damit können Sie nicht nur auf deren Lernressourcen zugreifen, sondern auch die rund 1.500 Arbeitsplätze des Bibliotheksbereichs im LC für das Selbststudium nutzen. Das OMV Bibliothekszentrum am neuen Campus ist diese Woche (Lernwoche) von Mo-So für Sie zugänglich: Mo-Fr von 8.00 bis 22.00 Uhr, Sa und So von 9.00 bis 18.00 Uhr. • Die ersten PC-Übungsräume sind ebenfalls bereits in Betrieb. Im UG 1 des Teaching Centers steht ein Raum mit 50 PC-Arbeitsplätzen zur Verfügung, im UG 1 des Library & Learning Centers ein weiterer Raum mit 23 PC-Arbeitsplätzen. Diese sind 7 Tage die Woche (7.00 bis 24.00 Uhr) für Sie geöffnet. Die weiteren PC-Schulungsräume am Campus können abseits der darin stattfindenden Lehrveranstaltungen ebenfalls für individuelles Lernen und Üben genutzt werden. • Projekträume für Gruppenarbeiten oder gemeinsames Lernen können Sie über das Online-Buchungstool „Rooms“ reservieren: http://www.wu.ac.at/students/org/services/rooms In diesem Zusammenhang möchten wir auf die Buchungs- und Nutzungsbedingungen verweisen (http://www.wu.ac.at/students/org/services/rules) und insbesondere darauf hinweisen, dass die Nutzung von Projekträumen ohne Buchung ausnahmslos nicht gestattet ist. Die Einhaltung der Buchungs- und Nutzungsbestimmungen wird in den kommenden Wochen intensiv kontrolliert werden. Sollten Sie sich ohne entsprechende Buchung in einem Projektraum aufhalten, müssen Sie mit dem dauerhaften Entzug Ihrer Buchungsberechtigung rechnen. Reminder Update Studierendenausweis! Noch bis 11. Oktober stehen von Mo-Fr zwischen 9.00 und 17.00 Uhr am Infodesk im Forum des LC Codierstationen und Evaluierungsleser für das „Update“ Ihres Studierendenausweises zur Verfügung. Es müssen alle sich in Umlauf befindenden Ausweise aktualisiert werden, um einige Services des neuen Campus (z.B. Zugang Bibliotheken, Buchung Projekträume, Nutzung Spinde) in Anspruch nehmen zu können. Über die Möglichkeiten des Updates nach dem 11. Oktober werden wir Sie in den nächsten Tagen informieren. Wichtiger Hinweis: Am Freitag, dem 04. Oktober 2013, ist der Infodesk im Forum des LC aufgrund der Eröffnungsfeierlichkeiten nicht besetzt und es ist somit auch kein Update der Ausweise möglich! Das Team der WU Studieninformation Dear students, This week is already the first exam prep week of the 2013/14 winter semester, and the October exam week is coming up fast. To help you prepare, we would like to provide some current information on the study rooms and spaces on campus and point out a few important aspects: · The library opens for students on Monday, September 30, 2013. Books, media, learning materials and approximately 1,500 working places are available in the main library in the LC. During the study week, the OMV Library Center will be open 7 days a week: from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 10:00pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays between 9:00am and 6:00pm. · The first PC labs are also already open. A lab in the basement of the Teaching Center offers 50 workstations, and a second one in the basement of the Library & Learning Center has 23 workstations. They are open 7 days a week (7:00am to midnight). Additional PC labs on campus are also open for individual studying whenever classes are not in session there. · Project rooms for group work and group studying can be reserved online via the electronic booking system “Rooms”: https://bach.wu.ac.at/d/accounts/login/?next=/d/rr/students/ Please read the terms and conditions for reserving and using project rooms carefully (http://www.wu.ac.at/students/en/org/services/rules) In particular, we would like to emphasize that the use of project rooms without a prior reservation is not permitted at any time. During the next few weeks, the rooms will be monitored extensively to ensure that they are not being abused. If you are observed using a project room without a reservation your booking privileges may be revoked. Reminder: update your student ID card! Coding stations and evaluation readers are located at the information desk in the Library & Learning Center (LC) until October 11, and are available from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. All student ID cards in circulation must be updated in order to use some of the new services on campus (accessing the libraries, booking project rooms, using lockers). We will be sending out information about opportunities to update your card after October 11 withing the next few days. Liebe WU-Studierende, nachdem die Übersiedelung auf den neuen Campus WU nun hinter uns liegt, möchte ich Sie im Namen des gesamten Rektorats recht herzlich zur offiziellen Eröffnung des Campus WU am 4. Oktober 2013 einladen. Die Eröffnungsfeier im Beisein von Bundespräsident Dr. Heinz Fischer um 11.00 Uhr können Sie via Live-Streaming unter wu.ac.at/wutv<http://www.wu.ac.at/wutv> mitverfolgen. Beim Open Campus am Nachmittag des 4. Oktober erwartet Sie dann ab 14.00 Uhr ein buntes Programm an Gebäudeführungen, Filmvorführungen zu den einzelnen Bauwerken sowie ein Unterhaltungs- und Kulinarikangebot. Zahlreiche Serviceeinrichtungen öffnen ihre Türen: im Study Service Center können Sie Ihr Wissen über die WU und das Studium testen und dabei attraktive Preise gewinnen, das Zentrum für Auslandsstudien informiert über das internationale Angebot uvm... Auf der Bühne vor dem LC werden künstlerische und musikalische Einlagen geboten, den Abschluss bildet ab 19.00 Uhr eine Light Show. Wir freuen uns auf Ihr Kommen! A live video stream from the opening ceremony, which will be attended by Dr. Heinz Fischer, Federal President of the Republic of Austria, will be broadcast on wu.ac.at/wutv starting at 11:00am. The Open Campus Day will start at 2:00pm with a varied program of activities, including guided tours, viewings of videos about the individual buildings, lots of entertainment, and culinary treats. Numerous service units will be hosting Open House events: For example, in the Study Service Center you can take a quiz about WU and its academic programs and win attractive prizes, and the International Office will be presenting WU's international programs. Various artists and musicians are scheduled to perform on the stage in front of the LC throughout the day, finishing off with a light show starting at 7:00pm. Liebe Studierende, für die Nutzung folgender Services am neuen Campus ist eine Art "Update" Ihres Studierendenausweises erforderlich: · Zugang zu den Bibliotheksbereichen und Nutzung der Spinde · Zutritt zu den PC-Schulungsräumen · Buchung und Nutzung von Projekträumen · Aufladen des Studierendenausweises mit einem Guthaben für die Mensa am Campus Das Update des Studierendenausweises erfolgt in 2 Schritten: 1. Initiierung an der Codierstation 2. Aktivierung am Evaluierungsleser Die entsprechenden Codierstationen und Evaluierungsleser stehen im Zeitraum vom 23. September bis 11. Oktober jeweils von Mo-Fr zwischen 9.00 und 17.00 Uhr am Infodesk im Forum des Library & Learning Centers (LC) zur Verfügung. Willkommen am Campus WU/Welcome to the new WU

please scroll down for the English version Liebe Studierende, herzlich willkommen an der neuen WU! Nach arbeitsreichen Wochen des Einpackens, Übersiedelns und des Auspackens, in denen knapp 26.000 Umzugskartons bewegt wurden, sind wir am neuen Campus angekommen. Bereits seit 20. August ist das Study Service Center als zentrale Anlaufstelle für studienrelevante Fragen im 2.OG des LC für Studierende geöffnet. In den nächsten Tagen und Wochen werden die letzten noch ausständigen Einrichtungen und Services ihren Betrieb am Campus aufnehmen. Falls Sie bereits Gelegenheit hatten die neue WU zu besuchen, haben Sie schon einen ersten Eindruck von der Größe, der imposanten Architektur und den vielfältigen Möglichkeiten unseres Campus erhalten. Wenn das Studienjahr 2013/14 in den nächsten Wochen beginnt, werden wir uns gemeinsam hier einleben. Gleichzeitig werden auch in den nächsten Wochen laufend Fertigstellungsarbeiten im Gange sein. In diesem Zusammenhang ersuche ich Sie um Verständnis für etwaige kleine Startschwierigkeiten, denn auch für die Lehrenden und die Mitarbeiter/innen der Serviceeinheiten und der Universitätsverwaltung ist Vieles neu und ungewohnt. Der Campus bietet zweifelsfrei eine Vielzahl neuer Möglichkeiten und Angebote - insbesondere für Sie als Studierende/r: Rund dreimal so viele Arbeitsplätze in Selbststudienzonen wie am alten Standort, modernste Hörsaalausstattung, Lounges und Plätze zum Verweilen in und außerhalb der Gebäude, zahlreiche Lokale, Sporteinrichtungen und vieles mehr. Dies führt mich zu einer wichtigen Bitte: Der sorgsame und nachhaltige Umgang mit allem, was der neue Campus uns bietet, ist ein ganz zentrales Anliegen der WU. Dies beginnt bei Themen wie Mülltrennung und -entsorgung oder der verantwortungsvollen Nutzung studentischer Lern- und Arbeitsplätze, umfasst aber auch Aspekte wie die Vermeidung von Vandalismus, etwa durch das Hinterlassen persönlicher Spuren an Wänden, auf Tischen und Ähnliches. Der Campus ist nicht nur für uns, sondern für zahlreiche nachfolgende Generationen an Lehrenden, Studierenden und Mitarbeiter/inne/n der Serviceeinrichtungen und Universitätsverwaltung gebaut. Die wichtigsten Bestimmungen zur Nutzung der Campus-Infrastruktur sind in einer für alle Universitätsangehörigen geltenden Hausordnung zusammengefasst: http://www.wu.ac.at/structure/servicecenters/procurement/security/hausordnu… Ich empfehle Ihnen sich von Beginn an damit vertraut zu machen, denn Unkenntnis schützt Sie nicht vor den Konsequenzen im Falle eines Fehlverhaltens. Zusätzlich gibt es für ausgewählte Bereiche, wie etwa die Lehr-/Lernräume- und -flächen oder die Bibliotheken, die Hausordnung ergänzende Nutzungsbestimmungen. In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich insbesondere auf die Regelungen hinsichtlich der Buchung und Nutzung von Lernräumen und -flächen hinweisen. Erstmals an der WU werden Sie als Studierende/r ab Anfang Oktober die Möglichkeit haben, selbst Projekträume etwa für Gruppenarbeiten oder gemeinsames Lernen über das Online-Tool "Rooms" zu buchen. Um einen reibungslosen Ablauf und Missbrauch der Buchungs- und Nutzungsrechte zu vermeiden, werden wir Ihnen dafür umfassende Nutzungsinformationen zur Verfügung stellen. Detaillierte Informationen zu diesem Thema werden in den nächsten Tagen in einer weiteren Ausgabe der Campus-Sonderreihe des Newsletters update! folgen. After busy weeks of packing, moving, and unpacking, during which approximately 26,000 moving boxes were transported to our new location, we have now completed our relocation to the new campus. The Study Service Center - the central service unit for study-related questions located on level 2 of the LC building - already opened its doors on August 20. In the coming days and weeks, the last remaining units and service centers will start their activities on Campus WU. Those of you who have already had a chance to visit the new campus have gotten a first impression of its size, its impressive architecture, and the many possibilities it offers. As the 2013/14 academic year will get underway in the next few weeks, we will all settle into the new environment. At the same time, final construction work will still be done on campus. In this regard, I would like to kindly ask you to excuse any minor initial problems that may occur. Please keep in mind that the teaching staff and the staff of our service centers need to get used to a new and unfamiliar environment as well. The campus doubtlessly offers a wide range of new services and facilities - especially for students: there are three times as many self-study workplaces as on the old campus, auditoriums with high-end equipment, lounges and places to linger indoors and outdoors, numerous restaurants, sports facilities, and much more. This brings me to an important request: making careful and sustainable use of all campus facilities is a central concern for WU. This includes waste separation and the responsible use of self-study workplaces as well as aspects like anti-vandalism awareness (e.g. avoiding the defacement of walls, tables, or other surfaces). The campus has not been built for us alone, but also for many future generations of faculty, students, and administrative staff. The most important rules and regulations regarding the use of the campus and its facilities are summed up in the WU House Rules (available in German only): http://www.wu.ac.at/structure/servicecenters/procurement/security/hausordnu… which apply to all WU students and staff members. I advise you to make yourself familiar with these regulations right from the beginning because ignorance is not an excuse and you will have to bear the consequences if you break the rules. In addition to the House Regulations, there are also special regulations that govern the use of teaching and learning rooms and spaces and the libraries. In this context, I would like to point especially to the regulations that are in place for booking and using learning rooms and spaces. Starting in October, WU students will for the first time have the possibility of booking project rooms for learning groups or collective learning via the online booking tool "Rooms." To avoid problems and abuse, we will provide you with detailed information on how to book and use learning rooms and spaces.
