Oktober 2025 15:07 Betreff: OECD CFT 3315- Experts on Health and Health economics Dear Madam, dear Sir, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is launching this Call for Tenders for sourcing one or several services providers (experts) in health and health economics to support the work on one or several of the following workstreams of the OECD Health Division: 1. achieving high quality health systems, 2. country projects supporting health system reforms, 3. making the economic case for public health, 4. quantitative analysis and modeling support for health policy reviews, and 5. policy advice and economic analysis. Tenderers can submit an offer for one (1) or several workstreams. Individuals and companies can participate in this call for tenders. The awarded candidates will be considered as intellectual services providers and will not be considered an official of the OECD staff. This means that the Organisation will not grant any allowances (relocation, medical insurance, travel cost recoveries, per diem, etc.) to selected providers. The deadline for submission of offers is Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, 04:00pm (Paris time). Dear all, Our next seminar speaker at CEU is Julian Vedeler Johnsen (Bergen), who will present a seminar talk titled “Contagious classrooms: Peer effects of mental health”. Abstract: "We provide novel evidence on peer effects in mental health using data on 230,000 Norwegian high school students and within-school/classroom variation in peers over time. The share of peers diagnosed with a prior diagnosis of mental health disorder increases own mental health-related health care use and decreases on-time school completion and GPA. The effect is driven by girls and by students with prior history of mental health-related health care use. We show evidence suggesting that a key mechanism is contagion (i.e. a direct effect of peers' mental health on own mental health), rather than classroom disturbance / teacher resources or updating beliefs about stigma or treatment effectiveness." Call for Abstracts Ninth ATHEA Conference for Health Economics “Equality in Times of Economic Slowdown” Vienna, February 26th and 27th 2026 Across Europe and beyond, fiscal pressures are compelling difficult choices in health care. This year’s conference theme explores how equality and fair access can be safeguarded despite prolonged budget constraints. What principles, evidence and policy approaches can guide the allocation of scarce resources without exacerbating inequalities in, for example, waiting times, coverage or out-of-pocket spending? We will host a thematic stream on equity under such adverse conditions and are pleased to announce our invited keynote speaker: Sarah Thomson (WHO/Europe, Barcelona Office for Health Systems Financing). In addition, a policy workshop will be hosted by Stefan Eichwalder (Austrian Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection). As in previous years, submissions are welcome from all areas of health economics and health policy, including long-term care, and need not be limited to the conference theme. Empirical, theoretical and policy-oriented contributions from Austria and neighboring countries are particularly encouraged. Research Seminar Invitation Topic:/AI, Digital Platforms, and the Information Ecosystem/ Date:Wednesday, October 22, 2025 Time:15:00 – 16:30 Location:Lecture Hall 6 (HS6) We develop a tractable model to study how AI and digital platforms impact the information ecosystem. News producers—who create truthful or untruthful content that becomes a public good or bad—earn revenue from consumer visits through ads and data collection. Consumers search for information and differ in their ability to distinguish truthful from untruthful information and reliable or unreliable sources of information. AI and digital platforms influence the ecosystem through four main channels: improving the efficiency in processing and transmission of information, endangering the producer business model by reducing visits, changing the relative cost of misinformation, and altering the ability of consumers to screen information from dis-information. Even though these new technologies improve the efficiency of processing and transmission, in the absence of adequate regulation (e.g. concerning accountability, content moderation, and intellectual property protection) the quality of the information ecosystem may decline, both because the equilibrium quantity of truthful information declines and the share of misinformation increases; and polarization may intensify. While some of these problems are already evident with digital platforms, AI may have distinctively different, and overall more adverse, impacts. The circadian rhythm of births and his connections with meteorological factors Alessio Fornasin, University of Udine Abstract: The aim of the presentation is to evaluate the influences exerted by temperature on the circadian rhythm of births. In the past, births occurred mainly between midnight and dawn, while today births tend to be less frequent during the night hours. Today, almost all births are hospitalised and, therefore, they may adapt to the organizational requirements of the health care structures and staff. This research regards births in Udine, a city in north-eastern Italy, recorded at the beginning of the 19th century. The data on births come from the French civil register. Weather data are from very detailed data collection with three daily inputs. From the statistical point of view, we apply methods developed for circular data. The results confirm that the circadian rhythm of births is influenced by temperature. About the presenter: Alessio Fornasin is Professor of Demography at the University of Udine. He published extensively on historical demography and economic history and has participated in numerous national and international research projects. In recent years, his works have addressed the influence of the environment on demographic behavior in the past, the history of the family in the first half of the twentieth century, and the demographic aspects of the First World War. He is a former President of the Italian Society of Historical Demography (SIDeS).
