Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren der Nationalökonomischen Gesellschaft, Wir möchten auf folgenden Ideenwettbewerb aufmerksam machen - bitte gerne um Verteilung: Ab heute, den 9. September 2021, können im Rahmen der Standortstrategie "Chancenreich Österreich: digital nachhaltig wirtschaften" Studentinnen und Studenten sowie jungen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler Vorschläge für konkrete wirtschaftspolitische Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung des Wirtschaftsstandortes Österreich im Rahmen des BMDW-Ideenwettbewerbs einreichen. What role will, or should, creative destruction play in overcoming these shocks? How to encourage and facilitate creative destruction, while cushioning its social costs? Which measures to take to even benefit from creative destruction and creative rebuilding necessitated by COVID-19 and climate transition? Dear colleagues, we are still full of hope that we can organize the fourth NOeG Winter Workshop for Austrian economists abroad and early career economists working in Austria (up to 3 years after PhD) from December 20 to 22 at WU Vienna in *presence*! (a cancelation due to government regulation until the last moment can never be excluded). A combination of government measures has been helping to cushion the effects from COVID and COVID containment measures on firm and household finances, thus mitigating the immediate effects on firm failures and household bankruptcies. As these measures are phased out, non-performing loans may further rise. How severely will this affect bank balance sheets and profitability? What do bank stress tests tell us, where are their limits? What are the implications for banks’ business strategies including loan provisioning, and for financial regulation and supervision? This call for papers invites original research – theoretical or empirical, academic or policy-oriented – which studies the interaction of COVID, government measures aiming to mitigate firm and household bankruptcies, and the development of non-performing loans; how banks have so far dealt with them; and the role of financial regulation and supervision in smoothing out failures and the impact on banks’ balance sheets while minimizing unjustified delays in bankruptcy proceedings and undue distortions in loan valuations. Workshop Arbeitsmarktökonomie 2021 Termin: 5. November 2021 Ort: IHS – Institut für Höhere Studien – Hörsaal 1080 Wien, Josefstädter Straße 39 Der fünfte Workshop für Arbeitsmarktökonom:innen in Österreich findet heuer am IHS statt. Ziel ist es das Forum zur Diskussion aktueller Forschungsarbeiten mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus der Arbeitsmarktökonomie auszubauen. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte sind Themen des Arbeitsmarktes, der Sozialpolitik, der Einkommensverteilung sowie verwandter Bereiche, wobei sowohl Makro- als auch Mikroaspekte behandelt werden können. Im Workshop soll eine offene und kollegiale Diskussion stattfinden, auch vorläufige und kontroversielle Arbeiten sind daher willkommen. Es können sowohl Abstracts als auch fertige Papiere eingereicht werden. Bitte senden Sie Vortragsangebote theoretischer und/oder empirischer Natur bis zum 30. September 2021 elektronisch an lmsp(at)ihs.ac.at<mailto:lmsp@ihs.ac.at>. Die Auswahl der Beiträge erfolgt durch die Organisator:innen und wird bis Mitte Oktober erfolgen. Angestrebt ist eine Dauer von 20 min je Vortrag mit anschließender Diskussion, wobei sich die Organisator:innen Anpassungen je nach Anzahl der vorliegenden Beiträge vorbehalten.
