After all, as stated by European Commission President Juncker in his speech on the state of the European Union in September 2017: "The wind is back in Europe's sails. But we will go nowhere unless we catch that wind. (…) Now is the time to build a more united, stronger and more democratic Europe for 2025." Renowned speakers representing a variety of international institutions and think tanks (including the European Commission, Bruegel and The Bank of Finland Institute for Economies in Transition) will present and discuss selected studies with a regional focus on Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE) published in a special issue of the OeNB’s quarterly publication Focus on European Economic Integration (FEEI, to be released by end-August). Keynote/special speeches will be given by István-Pal Székely (Director in the European Commission’s DG ECFIN) and Wolfgang Petritsch (President of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation). Both the 83rd East Jour Fixe and the special FEEI issue have been organized on the occasion of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2018. The topics have been closely aligned with the priorities of the Austrian presidency and address, among others: (1) the sustainability of convergence and integration, (2) EU budget and structural reform priorities, (3) EU enlargement and neighborhood policy, (4) financial sector development and stability as well as (5) labor markets and migration in CESEE. Professional Background · At least ten years' experience in empirical research, policy analysis and policy recommendations at senior management level in a national administration, international organisation, research institute or the private sector; preferably in a multicultural environment. · Solid and up-to-date knowledge of theoretical and empirical economics as well as the application of economic reasoning to a wide range of policy questions. · Strong analytical skills combined with an ability to identify emerging issues with implications for economic performance on Member countries and major emerging economies, and the ability to formulate and execute an innovative work programme. · Knowledge of and interest in other social sciences as well as cutting-edge or non-mainstream analytical frameworks and tools, including strategic foresight, behavioural economics, system thinking and complex modelling, would be an advantage. · Proven ability to manage and develop professional and support staff in a multicultural environment, and a demonstrated commitment to equal opportunities. · Proven management capacities to plan and schedule complex and dynamic work programmes, including research projects, and to foster collaborative problem solving in a horizontal manner. · Ability to manage financial resources and raise additional funding. · Demonstrated skills in public speaking, presenting and dealing with non-technical audiences in order to contribute to the diffusion of the Economic Department's outputs. Ladies and Gentlemen, We would like to kindly remind you of our forthcoming international seminar to be held by the Dutch expert on long-term care, Professor Henk Nies from Vilans, the Netherlands Centre of Expertise for Long-Term Care and the Free University of Amsterdam. Over the past few years, the Netherlands’ government has taken a wide range of measures to improve the performance and sustainability of its long-term care system. This entailed the adoption of a new long-term care Act, including re-scaling of responsibilities, but in particular implementing large-scale improvement projects across the various sectors, organisations, services and facilities involved in the delivery of long-term care. Henk Nies will provide an overview of the large-scale implementation of reforms and provide insights on the new policy instruments that were developed to ensure quality in long-term care. An intensive course of gentrification in several urban regions of the EU-CEE countries produced an ever expanding housing crisis. As housing costs skyrocket, many locals are forced out of their original fields of labour or neighbourhoods, which is one important reason for ending up on the sex market of their home countries or those of the West. Local legislations tend to burden sex workers with difficulties, threatening them with excessive fining, persecution and the possibility of forcing their children into state care.
