Die Verhängung von Sanktionen hat zu einem erheblichen Einbruch im Handel geführt, mit einem Rückgang der EU-Exporte nach Russland um 40% und der österreichischen Exporte um 19%. Bemerkenswert ist, dass Russland die wirtschaftlichen Kosten dieser Sanktionen trägt, wie durch einen signifikanten BIP-Verlust von dauerhaft 7,9% verdeutlicht wird. Diese Analyse zeigt die tiefgreifenden Auswirkungen von Sanktionen auf die internationalen Handelsbeziehungen sowie die wirtschaftlichen Einbußen des sanktionierten Landes, in diesem Fall Russland. Förderpreis für Frauen in der Wirtschaft | Verlängerte Einreichfrist 15.11.2023 Im Rahmen des Kompetenzzentrums „Forschungsschwerpunkt Internationale Wirtschaft“ wird der „FIW Award“ als Förderung für exzellente Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen im Forschungsbereich International Economics ausgeschrieben. Der Preis richtet sich an qualifizierte Wissenschaftlerinnen bis zu einer Altersgrenze von 35 Jahren, die PhD-Thesen an einer österreichischen Universität im Bereich „International Economics“ verfasst haben oder an österreichische Staatsbürgerinnen, die ihre Abschlussarbeit an einer Universität im Ausland verfasst haben. Der „FIW Award“ hat das Ziel, hervorragende Forschungsarbeiten von Frauen sichtbar zu machen und zu prämieren. Frauen sollen damit motiviert werden, eine wissenschaftliche Karriere einzuschlagen. Die Höhe des Förderpreises beträgt insgesamt € 5.000,00 und kann auf mehrere Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen aufgeteilt werden. Die konkrete Aufteilung der Preisgelder richtet sich nach Qualität und Anzahl der Einreichungen. Gefördert werden theoretische, empirische und wirtschaftspolitische Abschlussarbeiten zu folgenden Themen: Außenwirtschaft, Direktinvestitionen, Entwicklungsökonomie, Europäische Integration, Geoökonomie, Globalisierung, internationale Finanzmärkte, internationale Handels- und Finanzinstitutionen, internationale Makroökonomik, internationale Wirtschaftsentwicklung, internationaler Handel, internationaler Wettbewerb, multinationale Unternehmen, Umweltfolgen von internationalen wirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten, volkswirtschaftliche Effekte von Migration, Wechselkursregime¸ bzw. ähnliche Themen. Für die Bewertung der Einreichungen sind folgende Kriterien maßgebend: · Der Abschluss der PhD-These muss im Zeitraum 1. Oktober 2021 bis 15. November 2023 erfolgt sein. · Die Einreichung muss die Abschlussarbeit in PDF-Form und einen Lebenslauf enthalten. · Inhaltliche Kriterien: o Wissenschaftliche Qualität: 40%; o Klarheit der Argumente und Resultate: 20%; o Innovationsgehalt und Kreativität: 20%; o Wirtschaftspolitische Relevanz: 20%. Oktober 2023, 14:00 – 15:00 Uhr Ort: Online-Event (Zoom) Registrierung: https://www.eui.eu/events?id=563210 Abstract: This paper investigates the positive international spillover effects of non-discriminatory product regulations, such as quality standards. It will incorporate regulations into a multi-country general equilibrium framework with firm heterogeneity and variable mark-ups. The research models regulations as a fixed cost that any firm selling to an economy must pay, consistent with stylised facts that are presented. It is demonstrated that, in the presence of variable mark-ups, the fixed cost generates a positive spillover effect on the rest of the world, as it induces entry of high-quality firms and it improves the terms of trade of the non-imposing countries. The author argues that the benefits of such regulations are not fully realised under non-cooperative policy settings, leading to a call for international cooperation in setting regulations. The research estimates the model and applies its gravity formulation to quantify the global welfare consequences of altering regulatory policies, the extent of the positive externalities across countries, the effects of cooperation, and the comparison with further tariff liberalisation. The analysis reveals that the entry of new high-quality firms, rather than changes in terms of trade, serves as the main quantitative driver of international spillovers. FIW-Spotlight: Economic costs of the Russia sanctions This FIW Spotlight by Hendrik Mahlkow (WIFO) focuses on the effect of sanctions on European Union (EU) and Austrian trade with Russia. The imposition of sanctions has led to a significant slump in trade, with EU exports to Russia falling by 40% and Austrian exports by 19%. Remarkably, Russia has borne the economic cost of these sanctions, as illustrated by a significant permanent GDP loss of 7.9%. This analysis shows the profound impact of sanctions on international trade relations and the economic losses of the sanctioned country, in this case Russia. Sponsorship for Women in Economic Research | Extended deadline for submissions 15.11.2023 Within the framework of the Research Centre International Economics” the “FIW Award” is offered to promote excellent young female researchers in the field of International Economics. The award is intended for qualified female researchers up to the age of 35 who have written a PhD thesis at an Austrian university in the field of international economics or Austrian citizens who have written their thesis at a university abroad. The “FIW Award” aims to make outstanding research work by women visible and to award prizes. The goal is to motivate women to pursue an academic career. The total amount of the award is € 5,000.00 and can be divided among several young women scientists. The actual distribution of the prize money depends on the quality and number of submissions. Funding is available for theoretical, empirical and economic policy theses on the following topics: Foreign trade, direct investment, development economics, European integration, geoeconomics, globalisation, international financial markets, international trade and financial institutions, international macroeconomics, international economic development, international trade, international competition, multinational enterprises, environmental impacts of international economic activities, economic effects of migration, exchange rate regimes or similar topics.
