Diesmal mit folgendem Inhalt: · Förderpreis für Frauen in der Wirtschaftsforschung FIW Award für PhD-Thesen im Bereich International Economics | Einreichfrist: 30. 09.2023 · Einladung: FIW-Workshop on International Economic Networks (WIEN) | 07.-08.07.2023 · Reminder: Einladung: FIW-Vorlesung „Wie Industriepolitik den Green Deal voranbringen kann“| 04.07.2023 Förderpreis für Frauen in der Wirtschaftsforschung FIW Award für PhD-Thesen im Bereich International Economics | Einreichfrist: 30. 09.2023 Im Rahmen des Kompetenzzentrums „Forschungsschwerpunkt Internationale Wirtschaft“ wird der „FIW Award“ als Förderung für exzellente Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen im Forschungs-bereich International Economics ausgeschrieben. Der Preis richtet sich an qualifizierte Wissenschafterinnen bis zu einer Altersgrenze von 35 Jahren, die PhD-Thesen an einer österreichischen Universität im Bereich „International Economics“ verfasst haben oder an österreichische Staatsbürgerinnen, die ihre Abschlussarbeit an einer Universität im Ausland verfasst haben. Der „FIW Award“ hat das Ziel, hervorragende Forschungsarbeiten von Frauen sichtbar zu machen und zu prämieren. Frauen sollen damit motiviert werden, eine wissenschaftliche Karriere einzuschlagen. Die Höhe des Förderpreises beträgt insgesamt € 5.000,00 und kann auf mehrere Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen aufgeteilt werden. Die konkrete Aufteilung der Preisgelder richtet sich nach Qualität und Anzahl der Einreichungen. Gefördert werden theoretische, empirische und wirtschaftspolitische Abschlussarbeiten zu folgenden Themen: Außenwirtschaft, Direktinvestitionen, Entwicklungsökonomie, Europäische Integration, Geoökonomie, Globalisierung, internationale Finanzmärkte, internationale Handels- und Finanzinstitutionen, internationale Makroökonomik, internationale Wirtschaftsentwicklung, inter-nationaler Handel, internationaler Wettbewerb, multinationale Unternehmen, Umweltfolgen von internationalen wirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten, volkswirtschaftliche Effekte von Migration, Wechselkursregime¸ bzw. ähnliche Themen. Für die Bewertung der Einreichungen sind folgende Kriterien maßgebend: · Der Abschluss der PhD-These muss im Zeitraum 1. Oktober 2021 bis 30. September 2023 erfolgt sein. · Die Einreichung muss die Abschlussarbeit in PDF-Form und einen Lebenslauf enthalten. Dear All, I would like to kindly remind you of the CfP of the 12th Young Economists Conference 2023 on Funding the Welfare State and Social Infrastructure. The conference is open to early stage researchers from all disciplines, especially economics, political science or sociology. It will take place in Linz (Austria) on October 6th and 7th. The YEC 2023 is free of charge and presenting participants will be reimbursed for train travel cost within Austria and may apply for accommodation subsidies. A restricted number of travel stipends for selected researchers from the Global South will be generously offered by the INET Young Scholars Initiative. An outstanding contribution will be awarded the Eduard März Prize of €1,000. We especially encourage female and LGBTIQ* contributors as well as researchers of color to present at the conference. Submission of abstracts (max. 1 page) is open until July 10th and should be send to yec(a)akwien.at<mailto:yec@akwien.at>. Dear colleagues, The Department of Economics cordially invites you to the WU Economics Research Seminar on Wednesday, June 21st, with Anne Jurkat (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt) on "Robots and Wages: A Meta-Analysis" Abstract: The empirical evidence on how industrial robots affect employment and wages is very mixed. A meta study can help to uncover the potentially true effect of industrial robots on labor market outcomes and to identify drivers of the heterogeneous empirical results. By means of a systematic literature research, we collected 53 papers that estimate the impact of robot adoption on wages containing 2143 estimations. We utilize partial correlation coefficients and employ precision-weighted WLS estimations to analyze the true effect of robots on wages and potential publication, omitted variable and misspecification biases in the empirical literature. We also address data dependence issues as the main source on industrial robots is the IFR data set. We observe some evidence for a publication bias in favor of negative results. Moreover, we find that more positive results can be found if a) IFR data are applied, b) a finer level of aggregation than country- or industry level is used, c) a more recent time span is analyzed, d) focusing only on labor markets in Japan or developing countries, e) the functional form is of long-differences (or stacked differences), and f) the sector is non-manufacturing. We also find evidence for job polarization and skill-biased technological change since wages are more positively affected in high-skilled occupations. Differences in the labor market impact of robotization between the US and Europe vanish when one controls for more research characteristics. We show that environmental measures naturally hinder bilateral trade flows, but tend to favour flows originating in trading partners with a strong economic and political influence, such as high income countries or members of the Group of 20 more industrialised countries, who tend to dominate the notification processes. This suggests that, while the objective of these measures is to improve environmental outcomes, they shape trade in favour of wealth and industrialised partners who have better financial and technical means to comply with requirements of technical measures.
